Culture in Cuenca
We offer year-round cultural activities.
Here you will find a small offering of the possibilities.
Museum of Arte Abstracto Español
One of the most important collections of abstract art in the world, which can be found in the Cuenca's Hanging Houses and attached museum, belongs to the Juan March Foundation. After an explanatory tour organized by the museum, you can also gain practical knowledge in a museum workshop.
Concerts and theatre in the Auditorium
From € 5 - € 35
Throughout the year in Cuenca's Auditorium there are a great variety of high quality shows. Program: www.auditoriodecuenca.es
Science Museum Cuenca
€ 0 - € 3
The Science Museum has a collection of fossils from the Las Hoyas paleontological site, projections in its planetarium, and a walking tour through the history of astronomy and evolution among many other interesting exhibits.
The museum's walking tour starts with Prehistory, and you can see pieces of ceramic and utensils found here in the province of Cuenca. You can also see works from the Roman period, discovered in cities like Segóbriga, Valeria, and Ercávica, as well as objects from other cultures.
This is a way to get to know subterranean Cuenca. The Conquenses, in an effort to make more space, excavated a large portion of the rock under the city, converting it into a Gruyere cheese. The tunnels are also anti-air shelters and serve as underground connections between buildings. The tunnel tour is also a chance to learn a lot about the city's history and about Cuenca's aqueduct.
Cinemas Ábaco and summer cinema
€ 0 - € 7
You can find cinemas both in the centre of Cuenca and in the Mirador Shopping Centre
San Mateo is the most popular of the Conquense festivals, and you can join a "peña", or group of friends, to celebrate the 4 days of festivities.
San Julián Fair (august)
From € 3
During Cuenca's San Julián Fair, celebrated in second half of August, the city teems with Spanish tourists who come to enjoy the attractions and the fresh nights of Cuenca's summer.
Semana Santa de Cuenca
The Holy Week processions that take place in Cuenca are among the most important events in the city. The Week of Conquense Religious Music is also celebrated during Holy Week, and there are important performances and concerts in Cuenca's Auditorium.
